Heading out from the Seward trailhead |
camp beyond Blueberry lean-to |
I have breakfast by this stream on the climb of Seward |
Ice on the climb |
View of Ampersand lake ans mountain on the climb |
I make the summit of Seward, wet and cold from the climb through wet brush in 40 degree weather |
I pause here in the sun on the way off Seward toward Donaldson |
Donaldson offers a nice view to the east |
and I rest and dry my socks |
I reach Emmons |
where there are some good views, including Long Lake |
I return to Donaldson for lunch and enjoy the clear sky |
Descending toward Seward, I decide to follow a herd path west |
it descends to Calkins Brook |
where I can pick up a horse trail, back to the trail I came in |
I get bright views of the beaver ponds along the way |
and decide to go beyond camp, toward Duck hole, even though
there is no hope of making it to Duck hole and back before dark. I find a spring |
nice streams |
and get stopped by a beaver pond covering a hundred feet of trail |
it is a beautiful pond |
the frogs croaking was deafening, and the tadpoles eat |
heading back to camp, the sun catches a spider web |
and a shelf mushroom adjusted angles to the fallen tree |
the next morning I have breakfast climbing Seymore |
reaching waterfalls |
and views down the slide |
climbing through jumble most of the way |
I reach the peak (it even has a sign!) |
I rest out of the wind |
Another view of Ampersand |
Back to camp, I grab my pack, and eat lunch on the way out |
pollen on the boot |
I drive to the Ampersand trailhead, finding lots of woodpecker holes |
the climb gets steep near the top |
some ice and big rocks |
very stiff winds |
the Rice memorial |
although I passed 20 people coming down, I had the summit to myself |
great seat |
resting out of the wind |
view along the summit |
