Wet hikes to Whiteface, Baxter, Round and Noonmark with Zach
May 2006

We leave Easton dry	but find the rain soon enough	we stick to the river into camp near shoe box falls
the falls are roaring	rain drives us to our tent for dinner	hope in the morning before 6
breakfast by Cascade lake	the trailhead to Whiteface	an easy walk
to Lake Placid	view from Whiteface landing in the rain	bar stream crossing
rock crossing	a good snack in the lean-to	lush growth
the rain gets us soaked	the climb is steep	and steeper
above treeline	we reach the weather station	the visitor's center is closed and we scramble to add layers since we have lost the ability to use our hands
no wonder, we are soaked, it is windy and cold	a hurried descent	with a pause for a stuck foot
we enjoy a nice, if cold, lunch at the lean-to	back to the lake and then out	view from 73 & 9N intersections where we decide
to climb Baxter	the climb is direct	with views beneath the clouds
a scramble to the top	good snacks	contemplating with a view
fallen cedar	and we get back to shoe box falls for dinner	bright and early the next morning
we break camp, still taking the river route	the river bends	we head up on a climb or Round and Noonmark
woodpecker action	first views from Round	view from the top of round
the clouds press Dix	but there is sunshine too	we enjoy a good snack and head down
finding a meadow left by an abandoned beaver pond	then the climb of Noonmark	with its wide views
smiles in front of the great range	we lunch	and the rain comes
we head back to the jeep	sliding under the clouds	for a last glimpe of the Great Range
we finish our hikes, wet.
