the hike in to Colden |

Skylight, Haystack and Marcy |

the Algonquin ridge |

We set off on the trail at upper works |

and enjoy a lovely stream-side break |

old corduroy |

calamity pond and monument |

a rest at flowed land with a peek around the corner at the dam |

setting up camp in newly reopened but improved sites near lake Colden |

dinner on the dam |

Lake Colden as the sun sets |

we head up the gorgeous opalescent in the morning |

eventually reaching lake tear of the clouds |

four corners |

and we hustle to the view on skylight |

peaceful it was |

a long respected place |

pondering panther gorge |

we pump water in panther gorge |

then it is up, up and away |

to amazing trees on treeline |

Haystack is a serious climb from this side |

but the view is grand |

and you can see all around |

we enjoy lunch |

the flowers |

views of the great range |

last views of panther gorge |

nice anorthosite |

a patch of snow on marcy |

reaching the trail junction below little haystack |

and back to a great view at razor rock |

can't forget that view of Haystack |

onto a bog on the side of marcy |

an intrusion into the rock |

and the great views from marcy |

we pose |

enjoy the alpine vegetation |

and do the serious descent to four corners |

lake tear of the cloud |

and the amazing opalescent |

beautiful waterfalls |

in the morning we head around colden and along avalanche lake; the dike |

hanging walkway |

and I can't decide which picture of the end of Avalanche lake |

that I like best |

the deadly slide |

Marcy Dam glows |

waterfall as MacIntryre Brook crosses the trail |

first there is treeline on Wright |

quiet, and great views |

we enjoy lunch, and descend taking lots of pictures |

soon the descent of Wright is replaced by the ascent of Algonquin |

treeline with Wright in the background |

a protected spot on the climb |

we take a break on the summit |

it is crowded, but the view grand nonetheless |

we head for trail-less Boundary and Iroquois |

such gorgeous anorthosite |

view from boundary |

we pose |

cotton sedge in its splendor |

some real scrambles up Iroquios |

such amazing views |

we hang out for a long time |

finally descending |

back on the trail |

open rock on the descent to Lake Colden |

a noisy duck |

dinner along the opalescent |

sun and water |

waterfalls |

one of my favorite waterfalls |

after our last night in camp, Colden carries mist in the morning |

rock swirl holes as we leave |

and renovations in Tahawaus buiding |

and furnace |
