Colden from South Meadow |
Baxter |
Jay |
Some fall colors near camp |
and on the old road to Marcy Dam |
the clouds lift as I reach the dam |
hidden falls on the trail to Lake Arnold |
Lake Arnold in the mist |
lovely anorthosite as I climb Colden |
views are soon |
and lovely from the shoulder of Colden |
the ccd in my camera goes ajar |
I enjoy a view on the summit during lunch |
time to head onward |
steep view down Colden to Avalanche lake |
Tamarack above the NE slide on Colden |
a fall summit view |
trail between rocks |
an American toad |
view across Lake Colden |
a view from the end of Avalanche lake |
a wrap around view of Colden and the lake |

more reflections at Marcy Dam |
colors on the road out |

lots of hikers |
I decide for a quick side trip up Baxter |
delighting in the colors and juniper |
I found dark view, but noticed the sun would move beyond the clouds, so I waited |
and was rewarded with sunshine |
and fine fall views |
the next morning, it is raining, but I head to Jay |
there are fine colors |
and mist everwhere |
I reach the ridge, but the view is subdued |
neat black rock crysta |
playful cairns |
three toothed cinquefoil blooms |
perhaps a red cedar? |
white crystals |
dramatic knob near the top |
garnet |
clubmoss delights |
the summit |
I make the roundabout ("confused", not "lost") trip to the 3 survey markers |
well rounde rocks on the summit |
flag display on the ridge's end |
a chipmunk |
colors |
old blazes on the descent |
I pause for a last view at Chapel pond on the way home |
