Winter Climbs of Dix and Marcy
March 2010

Sleeping on the snow	near a fine swimming hole	the trail to Dix has lots of snow
the sun kisses the hills as I reach Round pond	fresh coyote tracks	hiking in the sun
glimpse of Dix	beaver pond holes kept open	to the lean-to
across the stream	fine trail	soon to a Dix slide
looking back to views of Giant	upward the trail goes	lovely
a roller	lots of little rollers	very steep: T-posting the ice axe each step
nearing treeline	sculpted snow	trees packed in the snow
or hoary	a promising place for lunch	all around views
lunch indeed	back to the wind swept snow	a view of Marcy and Haystack
steeply down	view of the slides	early step onto the slide
time to leave the slide	to join the critters in the lean-to	back to the beaver pond
soon to round pond, breaking a binding	taking a short cut	The Mountaineer rents me snowsnows; next day starts with red pines
on the way to Marcy, is Marcy Dam	Indian falls view of Algonquin	taping raw ankles
upward along a snow decorated trail	reaching a glimpse of Marcy	then views
nearly buried trail posts	on to the summit	along a wind swept shoulder
steep,	icy climbs	meeting skiers
hoar on rock	summit plaque and Colden slide	fine views all around, but I'll stay out of the wind
in a fine lunch spot	Haystack	skiers pose
and ski	departing the summit	on trail groomed by skiers
skiers skied Indian falls	return to the trail	and soon enough the Loj parking lot
