Around Christmas 2005 Cliff decided to start running. A few laps, every day in the gym,
slowly building the number of laps, and after some months, the weather was glorious sunshine,
so he switched to mostly running outside. These are some of the routes. New runners should
get advice from their physician...
Of course, the problem with outside is that the distance metric is missing.
Web based programs can help with that, but GPS watches are helpful too.
Getting a GPS watch and noticing
Brian Mason's Lafayette running article, I
felt challenged to put GPS data from the watch unto USGS topo maps.
I mostly have used this process for creating maps for my
Witness the Forever Wild Adirondack hiking guide and
web galleries. Modeling the cumulative
ascent information from the GPS data is described near the end of the article:
GPS and J Propel an Adirondack Hiking Guide.

Before I became a runner, I saw a Lafayette student running onto 611 near
Nevin Park and then was startled to see him running across the Glendon bridge later.
This is fairly long, includes those points, and is a lovely loop that includes a nice run along the canal.
The trickest part is the teleporting across the railroad tracks just beyond mile 5.

Long Canal Run
Total miles: 11.92
Cumulative Ascent: 1250 feet.
Old man time: 91:20
|
This is an extended run that includes lots of running along the canal and Delaware river.
